Pedestrian Accident in Salt lake
Unfortunately, even after life-saving measures were taken, the victim ended up dying from his injuries. When a person is hit by a vehicle, they don’t have any protection from the force of the crash. This means that pedestrian accidents often result in serious injuries or death, such as in this case. The name of the deceased has not been released to the public so that the police department can notify his next-of-kin. The driver of the truck was uninjured in the accident.
The accident scene was closed until after 11 pm that same night so that evidence could be gathered and the scene could be cleared. Although measures have been taken by the Utah Department of Transportation to make the street safer, such as installing a crosswalk and light, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to prevent this accident. The safety infrastructure was installed within the past five years when the shelter was built. Despite these efforts from the UDOT, pedestrian safety is still a concern along this busy road. It is unknown why the victim did not press the crosswalk button. Locals to the area have often seen risky pedestrian behavior taking place. It’s not uncommon for people to not even attempt to use the traffic signal and just run out into the road.
The truck driver that struck the pedestrian has not been charged with a crime. The investigation is still underway to determine exactly what led up to the accident. Police urge the public to stay as safe as possible when crossing the road. This crash is another example of a concerning trend of fatal pedestrian accidents in Utah. A day before the accident in South Salt Lake happened, on Christmas, a woman pedestrian in Tooele was also hit by a truck and died at the scene. There are many similarities between the two cases.
After ten in the evening on December 25th, 2024, Tooele City Police Officers were dispatched to Skyline Drive and Main Street, on report of a woman behaving disorderly at a local business. When they arrived at the scene, they found that she had been struck by a pickup truck going south. The 32-year-old woman had been crossing the street near Skyline Drive and 450 South Main Street, not in the crosswalk, when she was hit. The truck driver stayed at the scene after the accident and was cooperative with investigators.
Emergency responders attempted to save her life, but ultimately, she died on the scene from her serious injuries. The driver of the truck is not believed to have been injured. The deceased woman’s name was not released to the public at first so that police had time to notify her family of what happened. She was later identified on Friday, December 27th as Elizabethann Burns.

Pedestrian accidents leave many people seriously injured every year. A person’s life can be changed in an instant if they are struck by a vehicle. Not only do victims have to deal with physical and psychological pain, suffering, and trauma, but they are often left to deal with costly medical bills. Many victims of pedestrian accidents require ongoing care or become disabled. It’s not uncommon for a person to need surgery after being hit by a car or truck. Medical bills can quickly add up after a person is involved in an auto accident.
Pedestrians are very vulnerable in an accident because they don’t have the outer protection that vehicles provide. Vehicles weigh thousands of pounds, and the force of them hitting an individual can be catastrophic. There are many types of injuries that people can suffer from being the victim of a pedestrian accident. One of the most serious types of injuries from pedestrian accidents is internal injuries. The blunt force trauma from a crash can rupture or damage organs or cause internal bleeding. These conditions require immediate medical intervention and can be life-threatening.
Another injury that pedestrian accidents often cause is broken bones. Any bone in the body could be broken, but especially the extremities are susceptible to being broken. More serious broken bones in accidents are pelvis or spinal fractures. A broken spine can cause partial or complete paralysis. There are different types of bone fractures, including compound fractures, where the bone breaks through the skin, and comminuted fractures, where the bone is in three or more pieces. Healing from a broken bone could mean wearing a cast until it mends or getting surgery with metal pins or screws to put the bone back together.
Getting hit by a vehicle could also result in a head injury. The direct impact of being hit could cause one or the impact of the head of the victim against the ground. Traumatic brain injuries can be very serious and cause lasting symptoms. Concussions are a more minor form of TBI, but TBIs can be permanently disabling or cause death. Some symptoms of traumatic brain injuries can include headaches and migraines, speech and cognitive issues, depression and other mental health problems, light sensitivity, loss of coordination, mood swings, and sleep difficulties.
